Not every headache originates in the head. The joints, muscles, and nerves of the upper neck can be significant contributors to certain types of headaches, particularly cervicogenic and tension-type headaches. Poor posture, forward head position, loss of normal cervical curvature, muscular tension, and restricted movement of the upper cervical spine can all increase mechanical stress in this area.
Chiropractic care focuses on identifying and correcting these mechanical problems. By improving motion and function of the cervical spine and addressing abnormal posture or alignment when present, we can reduce one potential source of recurring irritation and tension. Because headaches have many possible causes, our first priority is determining whether your neck and spinal mechanics appear to be part of the problem.
