Slipped Discs & Disc Herniations

Despite the common term “slipped disc,” spinal discs don’t actually slip out of place. A disc can bulge, protrude, or herniate when its outer fibers weaken or become damaged, allowing the inner material to push outward. Sometimes this causes localized neck or back pain; other times it can irritate a nearby nerve and cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness into an arm or leg.

Treatment depends heavily on the location and severity of the disc problem. Chiropractic care, flexion-distraction, and spinal decompression may be used in appropriate cases to improve spinal mechanics and reduce stress on the affected disc and surrounding structures. Because not every disc problem is the same, your examination and imaging—when indicated—help us determine the most appropriate approach.
